2025 Athletics
Athletics will not be part of the Games this year. Unfortunately due to the track condition we could not hold the event without a significant spending to improve the track. A Crowdfunding Appeal is being set up to help meet the cost of renovating the surface so that athletics can return to the Games in 2026.
FUNDRAISING APPEAL
Wenlock Olympian Games’s athletics in Much Wenlock is under threat.
Since 1850, a wide range of athletics have been held at Wenlock Olympian Games on or close by its present home of the William Brookes’s school campus. Now these facilities are in urgent need of renovation to bring them back to UK Athletics’ TrackMark standard.
Without the quality assurance certification of TrackMark, Olympian athletics can’t take place in their historic home of Much Wenlock.
So, with the support of William Brookes School , WOS needs to raise £208,000 for: –
the specialist work and materials to resurface the track; a discus cage with a disabled athlete facility and turning area; and a durable PVC cover for the long jump.
If you would like to help keep the athletics in its historical home, please donate using the information on this page: Support WOS
Thank you!

Paris Olympics 2024
TeamGB’s Modern Pentathlon Team came to Much Wenlock to launch their bid for gold in this summer’s Paris Olympics.
Reigning Olympic Champions Joe Choong and Kate French are joined in Paris by teammates Myles Pillage and Kerenza Bryson. At the Tokyo 2020 Games Choong made it a historic double for Team GB in modern pentathlon following French’s earlier victory to take gold, where she broke the sport’s Olympic points record. Choong also became the first Team GB athlete to win a medal in the men’s individual event since its inception at the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games. Both Choong and French will be competing at their third Olympic Games this summer.
Much Wenlock was chosen as the launch venue because of its historic links with the pentathlon event and Harold Langley – who competed in the 1924 Paris Olympics (of Chariots of Fire fame).
Chris Cannon, the Society’s archivist, hosted the TeamGB representatives who used the Gaskell Field for their photographs. A selection of these can be found here: 2024 Team GB Modern Pentathlon
2024 Road Race Cancellation
It is with regret that the Society has reached the decision to cancel this year’s Road Race. This is due to a number of factors including low entry numbers, difficulties with marshalling and health and safety limitations. Full refunds will be made to all those who have already paid an entry fee.
